Faculty Hiring Policy

Canadian Khalsa College hires instructors who must minimally have academic qualifications and teaching
experience as follows:

Diploma Program Instructors:

  1. Master’s degree in discipline related to subject of instruction
  2. Two years post-secondary teaching experience in field or related field of instruction
  3. Experience delivering online instruction at a post-secondary level (as needed)

In addition, within the hiring process, Canadian Khalsa College requires instructors to be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of their particular course material
  • Demonstrate skill in teaching their particular course material
  • Demonstrate sensitivity towards the needs of post-secondary students whose first language is
    not English
  • Demonstrate that they are caring individuals with a genuine love of teaching

Procedure:
Canadian Khalsa College administrators will use the following procedure when recruiting and hiring new
instructors:

  1. The Executive Director and Senior Educational Administrator will ensure that the appropriate required qualifications are listed in the job advertisements.
  2. The Senior Educational Administrator will submit instructor job postings to external search websites.
  3. Resumes and supporting documents of instructional candidates will be reviewed by the Executive Director and Senior Educational Administrator who will select for interview those applicants whose submissions meet minimum academic and teaching experience requirements.
  4. The SEA along with a faculty member teaching in the appropriate discipline will interview the selected candidates. During the interview, the SEA will ask pertinent questions of the candidate. Those questions will minimally include behavioral questions as well as subject-content questions
  5. On the basis of candidates’ interview answers and manner, the interviewers will assess whether, in addition to possessing the required minimum academic qualifications and numbers of years of post-secondary teaching experience, the candidate possesses knowledge of the teaching subject area, teaching skills necessary to deliver instruction in this area, sensitivity and skill necessary in teaching students whose first language is not English, and enthusiasm for teaching. Candidates who are judged to have these qualities are considered to be suitable candidates for hiring as Canadian Khalsa College instructors.
  6. The SEA and the faculty member(s) will discuss the results of interviews and make final hiring decisions.
  7. Instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester basis.
